Alasdair Young Named Interim Associate Dean for Faculty Development

Alasdair Young, professor and Neal Family Chair in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, has been named interim associate dean for faculty development in the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, effective April 1.
He replaces Richard Utz, who has been named interim dean of the College, effective April 20.
As interim associate dean for faculty development, Young will advise the dean, the College’s executive leadership team, and school/department chairs on matters related to faculty affairs. This position supports the needs of the faculty community and provides resources and leadership that promote equity, diversity, and advancement of tenure-track, tenured, non-tenure-track, and research faculty.
Young has extensive experience in faculty affairs, specifically as chair of his School’s Promotion and Tenure Committee, chair of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts’ Promotion and Tenure Committee, and as the College’s representative on the provost’s Promotion and Tenure Committee.
Young will continue to co-direct the Center for European and Transatlantic Studies and serve as the director of the Center for International Strategy, Technology, and Policy. He held a Jean Monnet Chair (2012-15), was chair of the European Union Studies Association (2015-17), and was co-editor of JCMS: Journal of Common Market Studies (2017-22).
Before joining Georgia Tech in 2011, he taught at the University of Glasgow in the United Kingdom and held research posts at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy, and the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom.
Young has written five books, including Supplying Compliance with Trade Rules: Explaining the EU’s Responses to Adverse WTO Rulings (Oxford University Press, 2021), and has co-edited 15 other volumes. He has published almost a score of refereed journal articles — including in Global Environmental Politics, the Journal of Common Market Studies, and others — and more than 40 book chapters.
