The course Creative Portfolio capstone with Jillann Hertel involves two semester-long capstone projects: making individual digital portfolios and the execution of new works for a culminating group show. Spring's 2026 cohort co-authored the theme of Unposted and were challenged with creating their first handmade zines. Zines as the medium were assigned as a deliberate long-game exercise in divergent thinking, a skill crucial for human creativity and for thriving through change. Unposted demanded for (otherwise advanced) media students to pull from their inner toolboxes to express themselves primarily by hand (and/or with the tangible in mind) rather than by relying fully on technology. Design principals were considered across the digital and the tactile. Guest collaborators included: Librarian Alison Valk, who shared her zine collection and spoke on their historical significance and zine artist Arantza Peña Popo who shared her collection and introduced various formats, folds, and stitching methods via a live workshop.
Student artists include:
Ariana Banhan, Shelbie Carter, Charity Dawson, Sydney Gordon, Jordan Green, Liberty Nguyen, Nya Oscar-Smith, & Emma Zeng
